What ship sank in 1903 in Quebec after passengers were off, but their property wasn't?

One of the stories that my Grandmother told me was that my Grandfather's family immigrated to Quebec from Europe in 1903. She said that after they were off the ship, it sank and they lost all of their belongings. They had been living in Algeria where my Great Grandfather worked in the Export business. My Great Grandfather's name was William Julius Schmidtmuller.
I would appreciate any information on this sailing. I assume it was in the Summer months since Quebec was closed due to weather the rest of the year.
Thank you,

Newspapers.com

Newspapers.com is an excellent resource which can be searched by newspaper, date and keyword. I have searched The Montreal Gazette for 1903 using the word "sinking". There are 188 results and no story was found about this event you mention.

You could try doing the same with other words which might come up specifically in a story of this type. And if not in 1903, then expand the search.

Thanks for your question Nancy. I am not sure how I would go about looking for that. Perhaps in newspapers of the day. Maybe someone else who sees this will have an idea. If I find anything, I'll add another comment here.
